Identifying Factors Affecting Changes in Financial Situations of Football Clubs from EPL

First part of this paper will use financial information to assess the financial health of the football clubs over the associated time-frame and identify factors that may have contributed to changes in the financial situation, such as sporting performance, decisions about capital and player investment and whether there is evidence that this can be related to changes in ownership or changes in ownership behaviour. In part two using English Premier Leagues team performance data for 25 years we examine and assess how competitiveness has varied over time and establish the extent to which this can be related to structural changes, intervention policies and ownership changes. Concluding section provides a summary and discusses the wider implications of the analysis.
